Flare Path

by Terence Rattigan

Produced by Gill Brain - March 2025

It is 1942 and war has taken to the air in a desperate attempt to block Hitler’s advance across Europe. In a hotel near a Lincolnshire airbase, 3 brave men from Bomber Command are enjoying a weekend off with their wives when suddenly, there is an unexpected order for a night time bombing raid. The ‘Flare Path’ is lit to allow the planes to take off & land with the unfortunate side effect of showing the base location to any passing German aircraft.

All know what is at stake - the fatality rate for bombers was nearly 50%.

Rattigan’s play has all the emotions of war - the fear, the stress, the humour & the effect they have on relationships.

Emotions & tensions ‘flare’ as they find their own ‘path’ through the trials & tribulations or war, accompanied by many pints of beer and pink gin. Who will return? Whose lives will be changed forever?
